I am unable to cancel the auto-renewal subscription on products that my child ordered online without my knowledge or consent, and I am trapped in an unending cycle of being billed for and shipped unwanted products. The company makes opting out of its auto-renewal program impossible.

Here are the basics: The Terms and Conditions on the website state to call the customer service number to cancel all future orders and a link is provided. If you click on the link it takes you right back to the website's home page. The phone number is buried within the website, and it is difficult to find. I have called the number to cancel all shipments over 20 times beginning in August 2015. I was given two different confirmations of cancellation numbers. Yet they are still sending/billing me for products I previously cancelled. Therefore, I had my credit card company block all future transactions with the company.

The problem is that the companyโ€™s Terms and Conditions state that if a credit card is no longer valid then you are automatically entered into a pay-by-check program. If the bill still isnโ€™t paid the Terms and Conditions state that you will be turned into a collection agency.

Furthermore, returning the product is difficult, because there are two different shipping addresses. One address is in Foothills Ranch, California and is located on the front of the invoice that is included with the shipment. It clearly states on the back of the form to return the merchandise to the address on the front of the form. But the website states it should be sent to a completely different address in Arden, NC. Which address is the correct one? Is the company being deliberately deceptive so that the returned shipment goes to the wrong address and is not received in time resulting in another bill to the consumer?

In addition, I was unable to submit my complaint via email on the "Contact Us" portion of the website, because it would not accept it. I believe this company is not ethical and it has deliberately damaged me financially.

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Monetary Loss: $180.

Preferred solution: Cancel Auto-Renewal and shipping of product.

Guthy Renker Cons: Lying and stealing, Customer service, Unethical business practices, Fraud, Charged for product after cancellation that was not received.

I have tried contacting your customer relations team 20 times. I have been hung up on 17 times, had one guy pretend not to hear me, and have been told my account was cancelled twice.

Yet I still received another package. If you have any other ideas besides calling your customer relations team, I am all ears.

to get out of the auto shipments & charges. call and tell the agent you DO NOT AGREE to the TERMS & CONDITIONS.

Also the Arden, NC is where the return shipment department is...there are distributing warehouse in CA but you need to return to Arden, NC.

Also ask the agent to send you a RETURN LABEL to you...this way you don't have to pay for the shipping costs. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your response. I have tried to call more times than I can count.

They simple "tell" me what I want to hear or hang up on me. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau, the California Attorney General's office, and the Federal Trade Commission. Hopefully Guthy-Renker will cancel my account after hearing from these consumer protection agencies. Your comments on where to return the package are extremely helpful.

Hopefully this will be the end of this drama. Thanks again for helping me out.

I just had to open a complaint with the CA AG's office, the BBB, CPA & FTC. I also called my credit card company and reported the charges as fraudulent and had them charged back to my account.

Back in the day, GR used to be fairly easy, even pleasant, to deal with. Now the CS reps they hire from an outsourced company are appalling -- vulgar, obscene & threatening on the phone, unhelpful and downright deceitful. The company itself is knowingly sitting on people's money and deliberately charging people illegally, hoping they don't notice the charges on their cards. They're no better than the Nigerian Prince scammers or the Indian IRS scammers.

They're basically thieves.

I feel really sorry for people who used debit cards. They're really getting the runaround as there's no protection for them.

At least those who use a credit card can go through their credit card company to stop the charges.

More people have to contact the CA AG's office -- if they receive enough complaints, the AG will look into it.

I'm so happy to hear that you filed complaints against this company. Hopefully, they will get a lot more complaints and finally be forced to change their strong-armed business practice.

I have never, in my entire life, had a more disturbing and horrific encounter with a business, and I will do everything possible to help others steer clear of this torturous company.
